At Dumulmeori the Namhan and Bukhan rivers meet beneath an old zelkova, and at dawn the mist comes off the water in sheets. Drive out to Gapyeong for the Garden of Morning Calm, lit right through the winter. In Pocheon, a granite quarry that was worked out and abandoned has filled with green water and become an arts park. Down on the coast at Jebudo the sea pulls back twice a day and a road appears across the seabed — you drive it, then wait for the tide to decide when you leave.
