Southern Peninsula VR Travel Videos Suðurnes

The first land anyone sees in Iceland, and the one most people drive straight past. The Mid-Atlantic Ridge comes ashore on this peninsula, so the ground is young and still moving: a footbridge crosses the gap between the North American and Eurasian plates, and at Fagradalsfjall the rock is younger still — the volcano woke in 2021 after eight hundred years and has erupted again and again since, close enough to walk to. Bathe in the Blue Lagoon, whose milky water is run-off from the power station next door. Look into the mud at Gunnuhver, boiling and named after a ghost, and at the orange ground at Seltún. Watch the sea fill Brimketill, a pool worn into the lava by the surf. Then follow the coast to Kleifarvatn, a lake that empties and fills again through cracks in its own floor. Step inside these VR films and explore Reykjanes yourself — in a headset, or straight in your browser.
