Alabama VR Travel Videos

Alabama runs from the Appalachian foothills down to the Gulf, and the drive changes completely on the way. Start at Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, where the sand is quartz carried down from the mountains and stays cool underfoot in August, then cross to Dauphin Island, where migrating birds make landfall each spring after the flight over the Gulf. Mobile was founded by the French in 1702 and has kept Mardi Gras almost as long, its parades still filling the streets each winter. Inland, Birmingham grew on iron: Vulcan, the largest cast-iron statue in the world, stands over the city, and the Civil Rights District below is walked rather than read about. Further north the Little River runs almost its whole length along the top of Lookout Mountain before dropping into its canyon, and Cheaha rises to the highest ground in the state.
